Kitchen Countertop Compost Keeper
 1/1/2009  by  Stefan
Some call it compost pail and some call it compost crock. Whatever you want to call it this is the most important item in your composting system. The compost keeper is working as a convenient container to store your food scraps and other small organic matter so you will only have to deposit the scraps to your composter once a week or when the keeper is full. Do yourself a favor and get one!  It saves a lot of time and makes composting even easier. You can buy them in ceramic, stainless, bamboo, or plastic.  Oh, and don’t worry about the smell -- any quality keeper has a replaceable carbon filter installed in the lid. Just remember to empty the keeper about once a week.  Biodegradable bag inserts are available for a quick clean up.
